Thank you SAJAN, for my WONDERFUL Bhutan trip! If you are looking for a thoughtful, patient and sincere tour guide, please look for SAJAN from Tales of Bhutan! He puts his heart and soul into introducing his beautiful country to me and my sister and we are so grateful to him. He makes our trip totally worthwhile, and he was patient enough to answer every of our concerns personally during our one-year planning with him. Upon our arrival to Bhutan, Sajan welcomed each of us with a scarf that had our name printed on top! What a great surprise! My sister and I are both in our 50s, and we were worried that we may not be able to adapt to all the climbing and the altitude. However, Sajan was mindful of our concerns and constantly asked us if we needed water, snacks etc. He carries a heavy bag pack with him all the time so he can bring biscuits and a hot water flask for us should we require some energy booster. Such a humble service that we were not expecting at all! Sajan planned the itinerary very differently from the rest, as he brought us to places that probably only the locals know. His knowledge about the country is commendable and we can feel his love and passion for Bhutan just from his stories and descriptions. He wanted us to enjoy the views and temples instead of getting distracted, so Sajan became our personal photographer and videographer. He is great at that, and he even combined the photos and videos taken for the day into reels for us every evening so we can share the beautiful views with our friends and family back in Singapore. Each reel was accompanied by their Bhutanese traditional music and songs.Tiger's Nest was a challenge for me as I am not a regular trekker and I was really slow. However, Sajan was with me all the way no matter how long I took, encouraging me and giving me an extra push to tell me that I can make it and I am reaching the top. Without his patience and encouragement, I wouldn't have made it to Tiger's Nest! He went beyond just being a normal tour guide. Credits to Ram, our driver, who is very funny and lightened up the atmosphere even when the climbing got tough. Please keep singing :) In all, the trip was made possible because of Sajan and this is definitely a trip i'll never forget. Sajan is the owner of the travel agency, but he is not familiar with putting up his service on different modes of social media. So if you're looking for a GEM, please look for Sajan from Tales of Bhutan!![]()

More Than a Guide – They Became Family! Our journey through Bhutan was unforgettable, and much of the magic came from traveling with Sajan. What sets him apart is that he is not only the owner of the travel agency but also leads as the tour guide. He doesn’t guide just because it’s his job—he does it because he genuinely wants to share how beautiful and unique Bhutan is.From the moment we arrived, he made us feel completely at ease, blending professionalism with the warmth of Bhutanese hospitality. He didn’t just plan activities—he looked out for us every step of the way, whether it was making sure we had enough water, adjusting the pace when we were tired, or surprising us with little moments that made the journey even more special. His deep knowledge of Bhutan’s culture, history and hidden gems enriched every experience, whether we were hiking to Tiger’s Nest, exploring ancient monasteries, or tasting local delicacies. Oh my goodness, his love for his Kings was admirable! We also have to give a shoutout to our amazing driver, Ram! He was innocent, funny in his own way and incredibly helpful. Every ride with him was filled with laughter and he was always ready to lend a hand with the friendliest smile. Whether navigating the winding mountain roads or making quick stops for photos, he kept us safe throughout the journey.Ram always called Sajan "Jojo" (big brother) even though Sajan is younger, and the two of them worked so well together, sharing lots of laughter and respect.Together, Sajan and Ram created a trip we’ll never forget. They weren’t just service providers—they became friends and family we will cherish for life. I knew Bhutan would be an amazing trip, especially traveling with my BFF, but this duo made our Bhutan experience extraordinary, filling it with kindness, laughter and meaningful connections.Highly, highly recommended! They don’t just meet expectations—they REDEFINE them.![]()

This fortress serves as a summer residence for the spiritual King and hosts significant ceremonies, including royal weddings and coronations. Don’t miss this architectural gem during your trip!Day 4| Bumthang
Bumthang is renowned for its vibrant festivals, particularly the Bumthang Jambay Lhakhang Drup and the Jakar Tshechu.
The Bumthang Jambay Lhakhang Drup: Is one of the region’s most celebrated festivals, takes place at the Bumthang Jambay Lhakhang, the oldest Buddhist temple in Bhutan, built in 659 AD by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gyenpo. During the day, visitors can enjoy colorful mask dances, while the unique naked dance performance, accompanied by a large bonfire, captivates audiences at night. However, they may not permit pictures to be taken during the holy Naked dance.
Jakar Tshechu: The festival at Jakar Dzong is a captivating experience, but it’s essential to book your seats early in the morning, as the venue can become quite crowded. While there’s no Naked Dance during the Jakar festival, you can find it at Bumthang Jabay Lhakhang. The final day of the festival features a spectacular giant wall hanging being unveiled on the Dzong, making it a highlight you won’t want to miss!
Gangtey Nature Trail: Experience one of the most refreshing hikes in Phobjikha Valley! Starting at Gangtey Goenpa and ending at Khewang Lhakhang, this trail offers stunning views and a serene atmosphere. For a more leisurely hike, begin at Gangtey; however, if you’re an adventurous spirit and love a challenge, consider starting at Khewang Lhakhang instead!
Kilkhorthang Hike: This hike begins near the nunnery, leading to Kilkhorthang Village. It winds through lush green meadows, crosses the small Phobjikha River, and then loops back to the hotel.
Where to Spot Black-Necked Cranes
The stunning Phobjikha Valley serves as a winter sanctuary for the Black-Necked Cranes, attracting over 600 of these magnificent birds each year from November to March. During the summer months, they migrate to their breeding grounds on the Tibetan Plateau.
For optimal crane viewing, you can find several spots along the nearby roads. However, for a more immersive experience, visit the Black-Necked Crane Information Center, where telescopes and binoculars are available for close-up observations.
Tiger’s Nest Hike – Bhutan’s Must-Do Trek: The hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery is a must-do when visiting Bhutan, as it’s the country’s most iconic site. Plan for a full day to fully enjoy the experience, and start early in the morning. This timing not only offers a serene atmosphere but also provides the perfect opportunity for stunning photographs, especially as the sunlight illuminates the monastery’s rooftop on your return journey. Key photo spots include the closest viewpoint and the steps leading up to the Khando Meditation Caves above.
We’ll say our goodbyes after breakfast.
