Detailed Itinerary

Discover Two Stunning Photo Spots on the Thimphu-Paro Highway

  1. Tachogang Lhakhang and the oldest suspension bridge in Bhutan: This iconic bridge, built in the 15th century by the legendary iron bridge builder Thangtong Gyalpo, holds a rich history. According to local beliefs, Thangtong Gyalpo had a vision of a magnificent white horse, regarded as the emanation of Avalokitesvara. This vision inspired him to construct the beautiful temple nearby, known for its unique interior architecture. Be sure to stop here for breathtaking views and a glimpse into Bhutan’s cultural heritage! The oldest suspension bridge, originally constructed in 1420 to connect this beautiful temple, was later renovated following the flood of 1969.
  2.  Chuzom – The Confluence of Two Rivers: Discover Chuzom, where the Pachu River from Paro converges with another river, creating a stunning natural spectacle. Originating from the base of the majestic Jumolhari Mountain, standing at 7,315 meters above sea level, the Pachu River flows down through various streams and melting glaciers. As it approaches the confluence, it becomes a substantial waterway, showcasing the beauty of Bhutan’s landscape. Experience the breathtaking views and the serene atmosphere at this remarkable meeting point of two rivers.

The river flowing from Thimphu is known as ‘Wangchu’ is recognized as a transboundary river, originating from high glaciers in Tibet and merging with several other rivers in Bhutan. This majestic river is even larger than the Pachu River. From its source, it winds its way down through Bhutan before ultimately flowing into India and joining the Brahmaputra River.

Bumthang is renowned for its vibrant festivals, particularly the Bumthang Jambay Lhakhang Drup and the Jakar Tshechu.

The Bumthang Jambay Lhakhang Drup: Is one of the region’s most celebrated festivals, takes place at the Bumthang Jambay Lhakhang, the oldest Buddhist temple in Bhutan, built in 659 AD by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gyenpo. During the day, visitors can enjoy colorful mask dances, while the unique naked dance performance, accompanied by a large bonfire, captivates audiences at night. However, they may not permit pictures to be taken during the holy Naked dance.

Jakar Tshechu: The festival at Jakar Dzong is a captivating experience, but it’s essential to book your seats early in the morning, as the venue can become quite crowded. While there’s no Naked Dance during the Jakar festival, you can find it at Bumthang Jabay Lhakhang. The final day of the festival features a spectacular giant wall hanging being unveiled on the Dzong, making it a highlight you won’t want to miss!
